New comics are due to hit the shelves on Wednesday so here’s a look ahead at some of the books we’ll be picking up this week. To see what’s available at Paradox this week, click here.
Matt C: As expected, following a comparatively quiet week, the size of my pull-list this Wednesday increases with Marvel taking a big chunk of my weekly spend this time around (NOW! titles especially). Amongst highlights like Deadpool and Avengers we see the belated return of Uncanny Avengers, and to be honest, based on the quality of Hickman's two books featuring Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Remender's title is going to have to up its game considerably to stay in contention. Other than that, its Young Avengers #1 I'm keen to crack open. The team’s last outing (Children's Crusade) wasn't anywhere near as good as the original miniseries, but what's drawing me back to their world this time is writer Kieron Gillen and the fact that he's bringing Loki with him. It's not quite the same Loki we saw in Journey Into Mystery but I'm intrigued to see how he'll fit into this team all the same. My other highlight is the conclusion of Before Watchmen: Minutemen, which has easily been the best series to emerge from the whole project, and hopefully the finale will show that it's strong enough to stand up alongside its predecessor. Finally, I'm going to mention that the latest issue of Prophet is out too, for no other reason than it's awesome!
Tom P: As the country has descended into winter, let’s see what comics will be keeping me company on those cold nights this week. We get the The Massive #8 from Dark Horse so that’s a good start. Before Watchmen: Minutemen #6 comes to a close and it’s no surprise that Cooke had performed wonders with this series. I'm keen to see how it all wraps up. Sadly, I won't be picking up Batwoman #16 after the last issue. It was such a drag to read, I had to force myself to finish it. I feel it’s just lost its magic, so that just leaves Wonder Woman (out this week), Flash and Batman as my only remaining New 52 DC comics. Sad, huh? But their loss is Marvel’s gain as both Avengers #3 and Uncanny Avengers #3 are out with strong creative teams. Yeah, Cassaday is a bit late and he's not staying on the title but it’s rare for any artist to stay for long, consecutive runs on company books these days. It's not something I'm happy with but I guess these things take a lot of work. I do like Marvel’s plan for using like-minded artists in tandem - if the tone stays the same, like Daredevil and Hawkeye for example. I might pick up Uncanny X-Force #1 just to keep up with the characters from the previous comics but I'm unsure if that's a wise choice as I'm not excited or convinced by the creative team, which mostly governs my purchases now. As for a solid creative force, it’s with sadness that Ed Brubaker finishes his definitive run on the Winter Soldier with issue #14. His work with Bucky and Cap is close to my heart and he made some truly awesome stories that will soon be a basis for a major Hollywood sequel. Good work, Ed. You set the bar pretty high.

I picked up last week's New Avengers #2 with this week's titles. Didn't think much of #1 (aside from the excellent cover) but having read your enthusiastic reviews of #2, I decided to stick with it for another issue.............
