New comics are due to hit the shelves on Wednesday so here’s a look ahead at some of the books we’ll be picking up this week. To see what’s available at Paradox this week, click here.
Matt C: Obviously nobody’s putting a gun to my head and forcing me to pursue this hobby so voraciously, put I do have to take pause when I realise I’ve got (by my count) 17 titles on my pull-list this week! And that’s with only one DCU book being bought (Batman #0!). I put the blame for this state of affairs squarely at Marvel’s feet. Okay, so I’m getting a lot more creator-owned books these days than I ever have before, but those are still only appearing once a month (for the most part) whereas Marvel’s decision to try and squeeze about 18 issues a year out of some of their top-selling books means that we’re seeing the likes of Wolverine & The X-Men and Uncanny X-Force arriving on what seems like a fortnightly schedule. And that hurts the wallet, let me tell you. God knows what’ll happen when Marvel NOW! gets rolling. If I had to pick a likely contender for my book of the week, I would guess it would be Punk Rock Jesus #3 (based on the previous two issues being awarded that accolade from me) but Journey Into Mystery #643 is in the running too. Then again, looking at the number of great titles coming my way on Wednesday, perhaps I should say that all bets are off?
Tom P: So this week the vast majority of comics I read arrive on the shelves of Paradox at once! Let's start strong with Conan The Barbarian #8. This has been a revelation for me - I'd never read or watched any Conan until Brian Wood took over and I've loved every issue. It's one of the best comics you can buy - fact. Also from Wood and Dark Horse comes The Massive #4 and I can quite happily say you should be reading both. Only one comic from DC this week and that's Batman #0. Snyder has been doing a good job on this title but for my money it's not as fine as 'The Black Mirror'. Although I do have a few problems with it, it's still the best Batman book available. Speaking of which, I can't wait to see what Layman does with the Dark Knight, but until then Chew is as fantastically nuts and brilliant as it ever was as it hits #28 this week. Vertigo has both American Vampire: Lord Of Nightmares #4 and Punk Rock Jesus #3 for me to pick up and both are very good indeed. Rocketeer: Cargo of Doom #2 Is also out from IDW and I hope this second issue will be as enjoyable and fun as the last. Marvel is trying to bankrupt me with its double shipping madness and if a title starts with a U, X or W, I expect I'm getting it along with Avengers Vs. X-Men, Fantastic Four and Journey Into Mystery. So that's this week... I better go earn some more money now.
Stewart R: Craziness! Sheer craziness I tells ya! It would appear that nearly every major publisher gave themselves a little talk that must’ve gone something like this this week: “Hmmm, well that’s Baltimore Comic Con done for another year, and you know what, I think it went well! Hey, how about we reward those people that came along, and ALL of the other comic readers out there in the known world a big old, fat treat by releasing ALL of the comics, in the world, ever, in one go!?” 19 titles. 19 comics on my pull list to read this week and I can’t pass up on any of them. Olivier Coipel being back on Avengers Vs. X-Men #11 has me really excited though that has been tempered a little with my hopes of Hickman being this issue’s scribe gone and Bendis at the helm. Luckily I have the triple bill of Uncanny X-Men #18, Uncanny X-Force #31 and Wolverine & The X-Men #16 to dive into, all with terrific writers looking after them and there should be no dud amongst that bunch. Having an instalment of Joe Casey’s Haunt on my pull-list always makes it seem a great week and the appearance of Sean Murphy’s Punk Rock Jesus #3 means that the quality bar has been shot into the stratosphere this week. I’ve even three Dark Horse titles in the mix for the first time ever with Orchid #9, The Massive #4 and a new crime tale to dunk my nose into with The Creep #1. Busy, glorious, expensive times these for a comic reader!

Thanks guys, you made me feel much better about my (paltry) seven titles this week!
Most excited for Uncanny X-Force (Final Execution arc and last four issues in particular have been exceptional), Winter Soldier (really ramped it up from #6 onwards) and Creep (top issue zero).
I said a while back that we must be due a crap week soon, but no sign of it yet!
Nice to see what everybody is picking up this week guys and I'm really looking forward to picking up Thunda #2 and I'm in the same boat as some of you with picking up so many titles in one week, I'm picking up 39 this week and at this rate I'll have to remortgage the house if the wife will let me.
As a long time Robert E Howard fan, can I just add my nod of agreement in Tom's direction re: Brian Wood's take on Conan. This has to be the best run on Conan since the brief early '70s period of Barry Smith on the colour comic and Alfredo Alcala inking Savage Sword. Astonishingly good - especially the recent Argos story line which was one of the most brutal 'Swords and Sorcery' fight scenes ever put to paper. Splendid stuff! :)
