THE MINOR OPINION: Dark Nights: Metal

11 year-old James U is a big fan of comics so every once in a while we like to give you a break from the utterings of middle-aged men and allow him to tell you what's exciting him at the moment.

James U: Hi. It’s James here again and I’m back to talk about DC’s Dark Nights: Metal, the new Batman-based crossover that I’ve really been enjoying.

I’ve been enjoying it a lot for two main reasons. The main one is the return of my favourite creative team to Batman – the mighty Snyder and Capullo! But the second reason is the concept of the Dark Knights themselves. I feel as though rather than being just villains they are actually heroes who were just tortured mentally into taking the wrong path. Give them a chance and maybe they could still yet become heroes!

Although Scott Snyder is the main creator behind the story I think it was a good call bringing in other talented writers and artists for the one-shots – especially Grant Morrison for next year’s Wild Hunt! I’ve really enjoyed some of the spin-off creative teams and I would single out Williamson, Di Giandomenico, Humphries and Van Sciver for their excellent work.

THE MINOR OPINION: Trailers For 2017

11 year-old James U is a big fan of comics so every once in a while we like to give you a break from the utterings of middle-aged men and allow him to tell you what's exciting him at the moment.

James U: Hello again fans and welcome to my review on all the cool comic book movie trailers out now.

Over the last few months I’ve watched trailers for Logan, Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2, Justice League, Wonder Woman and The Lego Batman Movie. I really like these types of trailers because as well as being really exciting they also tell a different type of story to the original comic books. Sometimes they can expand on what you already know about the comics too. I love it when I spot characters that I already know and love, like Aquaman in the Justice League trailer. Although the comics are obviously still better than the movies, period. Why? Because comics are awesome!

The best of all the trailers has to be the Lego Batman Trailer because of the comedy, although Logan is also very cool. It has a huge range of top Batman characters and it expands the Lego movie universe as well. Baby Groot running away with the bomb in the Guardians trailer is also very funny too and made me and Dad laugh when we watched it!
Watching trailers for comic book movies doesn’t really make me want to go and read more comics because I always want to read comics! It does make me want to read some comics I haven’t read yet though – like Old Man Logan by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven - but my Dad won’t let me because he says it’s not suitable. Ugh!

THE MINOR OPINION: DC's Rebirth

Hello everyone - let me quickly introduce us before I turn things over to my son! I’m Ian and I’ve been shopping at Paradox since about 1995 (and collecting comics since 1988). My son James though has been visiting Paradox for his entire life! At first he used to come along in his pushchair and sleep but around the age of four or five he started to take an interest in the Transformers & Star Wars stuff that Andy H had on display (there was a massive Hoth Wampa at one point that James would have killed for!) After the Avengers movie came out in 2012 he began to show an interest in superheroes that has kept growing ever since. Our monthly visits to Paradox have become the highlight of his calendar and he is rapidly developing a knowledge and a passion for superhero comics that surpasses even mine! Whenever we’re in Paradox, James likes to join in when me and Andy start to chat about the state of the current comics scene which prompted Andy to ask him if he fancied giving the PCG his thoughts on DC's Rebirth. James agreed and so, with further ado, here’s he is!
